The “Cameroonian Women for Peaceful Elections” commemorates the 2016 international peace day through the official introduction of the « Women’s Situation Room » initiative in Cameroon.
The “Cameroonian Women for Peaceful Elections” is a platform of about 31 CSO’s initiated by WILPF Cameroon as a result of WILPF African regional Conference which proposed the setting up of Women’s Situation Rooms in countries having elections following the example of WILPF Nigeria and as a result of the GIMAC call in 2012.
With the support of Folke Bernadotte Academy via WILPF Sweden, the meeting was held in Yaoundé at Tou’ngou Hotel with the participation of Government officials including the representatives of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of Territorial Administration.
Also present UN Women, the European Union Delegation, the National Commission on Human rights and Freedom , Civil society organizations and Media. The idea of setting up a WSR in Cameroon was widely approved by all stakeholders present who committed to support the initiative.
